Dazzle with sparkles and sequins

When you think about sequins and sparkles, some people would link them to costumes, dance recitals or Las Vegas, but they’re actually more versatile than you think. The secret is to not overdo it.
In past columns, I recommended not going bold and bright on top and bottom, but rather choosing one or the other. This is the case here.
A black outfit with a little sparkle is very chic, sophisticated and fun all in one basket. Pull your hair back into a simple bun with some hidden pins and it’s almost like Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfaast at Tiffany’s” meets 2015. Try pairing your black outfit with shiny or sparkly shoes.
Another great way to add the shine with no guilt is to pair a sequin top or a top with some sort of jewels on it with your best denim. It’s casual enough for brunch and fancy enough for a dinner party.
Accessories aren’t the only items you have in your closet that can add sparkle and shine in the right way. They certainly do, but my goal is show you just how many other options you truly have.
I can’t deny I agree some articles of clothing are “too young” for some people, but I argue it’s all about how you wear it.
I recommend wearing fewer sparkles and sequins the older you get, but that doesn’t mean you need to throw them away entirely.
Have fun, experiment and find what works for you and your personality.
Like I said in recent columns, you wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you.
