Less is more

Two names come to mind: Kate Middleton and Audrey Hepburn. These two ladies strut to the beat of their own drum when it comes to fashion.
From little black dresses to a solid-colored blazer, there’s never a bad outfit. Even in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” Hepburn makes a silk robe and eye mask look flawless.
A casual less-is-more outfit might include a pair of skinny jeans and a solid-colored top with your best pair of wedges for summertime. Crew-neck Ts look great with this look.
Add a necklace and brunch day with the ladies it is!
The most valuable thing about casual classics is they usually involve staple pieces that will match just about anything in your closet.
Dresses are more versatile than one may think. Remember my column about the LBD? Simple goes a long way with dresses. A white “flowey” summer dress works well for a daytime date or even a party.
Plus it’s wedding season, so there’s a wonderful bridal shower look! Add a funky shoe to show off your personality.
Helpful hint: When the outfit is simple and includes more solids than not, outwear has never been more useful. On a chilly night by the water, a cool jacket from the thrift shop downtown comes in handy.
I don’t want you to confuse simplicity with boring. Many people think solids and shades are dull, but when paired with the right pieces, it can really be a stylish look.
It helps to imagine a blank canvas or a silhouette. You start out with something simple and build up from there until you feel comfortable.
No matter what’s in and no matter what’s trendy, there’s always room to add a little “you” to an outfit.
